Activities in Olympos
Olympos Ancient City
Olympos is situated in the middle of the green mediterranean coast area with vast woods and gardens. Here you can combine seaside and mountains with the ancient culture of Lycia.
In this beautiful nature you are surrounded by the smells of thyme, basil and the sea. You will find yourself in the country of gods, kings, pirates and sailors. Take a bath in the sun with the turtles and swim with the fish.
Our pension is situatded in the west of Antalya- between Kemer and Adrasan. From Antalya, you leave the country road in Ulupinar in direction to Olimpos. This street will lead you directly to the beach- after you passed the ancient city of Olympos by foot.
Olympos was built in the 2nd century B. C. as seaport and existed until the 15th century. The ancient city is situated in a beautiful area of mountains and valleys including a beautiful beach.
After an one-hour walk, you can reach Çirali with its impressive natural spectacle: eternal fires blaze from the rock and still serve the seamen as guiding lights. Meet the mystery of the legend of Chimaera!
Treking Get back to nature on a one day trekking adventure into the rugged terrain of Olympos. Walk through peaceful pine forests along the old King's Trail and discover the ancient Lycian Lost City. See Turkey's untouched wilderness away from the crowds. Our guides will explain all points of interest to you along the way.
Safari
Our jeep safari takes you into the mountains and valleys surrounding Olympos, driving along roads clinging precariously to the hillsides. See the unspoiled Turkey with us.
Together we visit the ancient ruins of Lymra and Arykanda with swimming breaks in cool springs welling up from the ruins, secluded beaches and sparkling waterfalls.
As we continue through villages that time has forgotten, you will see villagers go on with their daily life in a manner not much different from 200 years ago.
Our trip would not be complete without a çay (tea) stop in a local village. Lunch is offered at a local fish restaurant by the river where you will be served trout so fresh it was swimming when you set out.
Chimera
Chimera is situated 8kms from Olympos. Scientists are as mystified as the people of ancient times as to how fire spontaneously erupts from holes in the mountain. Chimaera was another Lycian city, and is named after the mythological son of Typhon. Legend has it that the Chimaera was killed by Bellerophon who mounted Pegasus and bombarded the Chimaera with molten lead. From a realistic viewpoint, the most logical reason for the flames is that it is natural gas seeping through cracks in the earth – although scientists are still unable to discover the compounds of the gases. The mythological reason for the fires is far more interesting than the scientific one – let the visitor decide!
To truly appreciate the effects of the Chimaera it is best to visit the area in the evening. The almost pyrotechnic effect is most impressive during the hours of darkness. Looking away from the magic of the fires there is the added bonus of spectacular views of the Lycian ruins above.
Every night at 9 o'clock tours are available to the eternal flame.
